As I was eating my morning grapefruit with my sons, we were watching the snow storm and I remembered something I learned a long time ago in a emergency preparedness class. Citrus and olive oil make great emergency candles (you will need something to light the candle, so it’s always wise to have some waterproof matches handy). To make a candle, you will simply cut the grapefruit in half, scoop out the insides, leaving the “core” intact as the wick. Fill with olive oil, and light! The candle floats, which is great in a flooding situation, and also burns for 8-12 hours depending on quality and amount of oil. Try it out next time you have a Red Barn grapefruit. [/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_single_image image=”12971″ img_size=”medium” alignment=”center”][/vc_column][/vc_row]
