Elementary School Field Trips

Elementary School Field Trips at the Back 40 are a great way to bring your school to enjoy the farm. We offer a fun and educational farm experience where students learn about our orchard, crops, and daily farm operations through an engaging presentation. Afterward, they get to explore and play in the Back 40. Apple picking is also provided—when available*—or receive a fresh apple from our harvest. It’s a hands-on way to learn about agriculture while enjoying time outdoors! *Apple picking is not always available depending on the dates of harvest and crop size.

Why Bring Your School to the Back 40?

Bring your students to the Back 40 for a hands-on learning adventure they won’t forget! Our elementary school tours combine interactive, age-appropriate education with plenty of fresh-air fun. Students will learn about life on the farm—where food comes from, how crops grow, and the care that goes into raising them—through engaging presentations and real-life demonstrations. They’ll be able to connect what they’ve learned in the classroom to the world around them. It’s the perfect blend of education and excitement that will have your students talking long after the bus ride home!

Our Elementary School Tours are tailored to grades 1-5. We can accommodate Kindergarden classes but do not provide the educational presentation, it is more of a play time experience.

PLEASE NOTE: If you are scheduling for a home school group please book to come on a home school day. Due to the amount of groups that visit our farm in the fall, we are no longer able too accommodate special requests from homeschool groups on Elementary school days. We provide an expanded Back 40 experience for Home School Days that is better catered to the varying age groups that usually come with homeschool groups.

Dates and Pricing: Sept. 15th - 19th and 29th & 30th. October 1st - 3rd, 13th-17th, and 27th - 30th. Cost: $6/person ages 3 and up. Ages 2 and under are free.

Hours are 9:30 am - 2 pm.

All guests will be required to leave the Back 40 at 2 pm. So make sure to come early enough to enjoy your time here!

What to expect during your visit:

  • Arrive at the barn on time! We have multiple groups come on Elementary school days so if you are late we can't extend your time.
  • Have a teacher check in at the barn.
  • Wagons will be ready to take you to the Back 40.
  • Stop at the orchard to learn how to pick pick an apple and then every child will pick an apple to enjoy. (Apple picking isn't always available depending on spring frost and time of year. We do have a light crop this year so we won't be able to pick with all groups. If we can't pick an apple we will at least provide an apple for the kids to try)
  • Next Stop...The Back 40! We provide an educational presentation under the big pavilion.
  • Playtime. For elementary school groups we allow play on the Giant Slide, Corn Pit, Barn Bouncers, Animal Barn, and the Kiddie Carousel. We DO NOT allow play in the corn maze, apple cannons, cable ride (previously known as the zip line. (See rules and expectations.)
  • Last Stop...Back to the Barn. Grab your included donut as you load the wagon, and then head back to the Barn.
