Preschool Field Trip

Preschool Field Trips at the Back 40 are a great way to bring your kids to enjoy the farm. We offer a fun farm experience where kids get to come to the Back 40 and play. We also offer apple picking for preschool classes when there are apples available. Apple picking is not guaranteed due to spring frost or harvest timing.

Why Bring Your Prechool to the Back 40?

Our Preschool Back 40 Tours are all about fun, exploration, and hands-on play! Designed with young learners in mind, these visits give preschoolers the chance to run, climb, jump, and discover in a safe, open-air farm setting. From our giant slides and jump pads to farm-themed play areas, every activity encourages movement, imagination, and smiles. It’s the perfect way for little ones to enjoy the great outdoors, burn off energy, and create happy memories with their friends and teachers.

PLEASE NOTE: If you are scheduling for a home school group please book to come on a home school day. Due to the amount of groups that visit our farm in the fall, we are no longer able too accommodate special requests from homeschool groups on Preschool days. We provide an expanded Back 40 experience for Home School Days that is better catered to the varying age groups that usually come with homeschool groups.

Dates and Pricing: Sept. 22-26th, October 6th-8th, 20-23. Cost: $6/person ages 3 and up. Ages 2 and under are free.

Hours are 9:30 am - 1 pm. Time slots are scheduled every 1/2 hour.

All guests will be required to leave the Back 40 at 2:30 pm. So make sure to come early enough to enjoy your time here!

What to expect during your visit:

  • Arrive at the barn on time! We have multiple groups come on Preschool days so if you are late we can't extend your time.
  • Have a teacher check in at the barn.
  • Wagons will be ready to take you to the Back 40.
  • Stop at the orchard to learn how to pick pick an apple and then every child will pick an apple to enjoy. (Apple picking isn't always available depending on spring frost and time of year. We do have a light crop this year so we won't be able to pick with all groups.)
  • Next Stop...The Back 40! Time for fun!
  • Playtime. For preschool groups we allowed to play on the Giant Slide, Corn Pit, Barn Bouncers, Animal Barn, and the Kiddie Carousel. We DO NOT allow play in the corn maze, apple cannons, cable ride (previously known as the zip line. (See rules and expectations.)

What to bring:

As you prepare to join us for the Preschool Field Trip please encourage the students to bring:

  • Appropriate footwear and clothing. While the back 40 is groomed, it is an outdoor event and exposed to the elements. Most paths are dirt or gravel and may become uneven and/or muddy. Please plan your clothing and footwear accordingly.
  • Coats or jackets for cold weather days.
  • Portable restrooms are available in the Back 40. Hand washing stations are located by the Barnyard.
  • Bring your own water. We have potable water to refill bottles in the Back 40.
  • Lunch and snacks. Feel free to bring lunches and snacks into the Back 40.
  • Leave your pets at home. To maintain the comfort level of all our guests, we ask that you leave your pets at home. Service animals are welcome.

Where to go:

Check in at the Ticket Booth to redeem your tickets if purchased online (parents and accompanying siblings may purchase tickets the day of the event but please purchase online if possible so we know about how many people are coming). Wagons arrive at the barn every 15 minutes to take you to the Back 40.

You made it!

Enjoy your time at the Back 40. If you have questions, or need help please contact the Red Barn and ask for Megan or Paden.
